Happy Halloween!

Hope you all had a lovely evening, bitches!

I, for one, did not eat enough candy, did not dress up, did not trick or treat, did not howl at the moon, did not watch scary movies, and did not really celebrate. I watched Veronica Mars and went to bed early-ish.

What did you do?

That's nice.

Now go read this very funny article in my sole (well, near-sole, aside from the pumpkin pictured) concession to Halloween spirit.

I like popular culture

I really, really do.

I like Justin Timberlake. (Ah, falsetto.)

I like Rachel McAdams maybe starring in one of my favorite books. (I hope it's true, and if so, I want to know the costar.)

I like thinking of influential fictional characters. (#57, I heart you!)

I like using stationery to make movie posters. (It's really only going to make sense if you click the link.)

I like bizarre cat pictures with quotes. (Several of these have no right to be as funny as they are.)

I like inventive writing, even when short. (Atwood and Moore are excellent.)

I like PBF Comics. (So many, some disturbing, some silly, most funny.)

Things like this make me happy to live in the world.

I think I need some sort of outfit vetting process...

It occurs to me that my outfit today is total nerd bait. If you were a nerd, here's what my apparel today would be saying to you.

Chinese cork dragon shoes say:
I've watched my fair share of Bruce Lee movies, can roundhouse kick, and won't complain about walking the entire Comic-Con with you in uncomfortable footwear.

Form-fitting cargo pants say:
I might not be averse to playing World of Warcraft or paintballing, but I still have a nice ass.

"Joss Whedon is my Master Now" shirt says:
We could enjoy a Firefly marathon together, then debate the merits of Spike vs. Angel. Also, I have breasts.

Glasses say:
I, too, have stared at my computer screen for hours on end, and will not be averse to your doing so. I won't ever mock you for being a "four-eyes."

Long hair says:
I have the potential for Princess Leia hairstyles, and, therefore, role-playing games both online and in the boudoir.

Come to think of it, with the number of nerds swarming around my workplace, I'm surprised some geek hasn't already clubbed me over the head with his Dr. Zaius figurine and dragged me back to his Star Trek-themed lair. I'll need to be more careful in the future.

Good writing makes me happy

I'm a writer. Right? So while bad writing makes me sad and angry, good writing makes me feel like the world has been sprinkled with glitter and a unicorn is taking me on a magical journey through a hug-filled cavern of smiles. Or something.

Save for a single typo, this Friday's Go Fug Yourself post is a divine wonder of adverbial bliss and sarcasm. It references both feudalism and Hug Tag. Oh, glorious GFY girls. I love your snark that sparks with smarts!

It also just makes ME happy to write good stuff. Sure, not everything I write is good. Far from it! But there are few things more satisfying than creating a sentence that conveys exactly what you meant it to, eloquently. I like writing recaps for Ugly Betty because it lends itself so well to good-natured mockery. I like writing for my TV site because I get to describe shows in my own words, with my own opinions. I even like writing for the work blog because it's an opportunity to be a little more fun while still informative.

Basically, I like writing.

Gray October

Who's got two thumbs and has been remiss in posting? This girl. But, in my defense, the rigors of work and TV watching/writing have been keeping me quite busy lately. Please don't hate me.

Things I have been doing lately instead of posting:

- the aforementioned TV Blog

- playing the "dead celebrity soulmate" game

- trying to decide if I should get my hair cut like Alexis Bledel

- trying to decide if I should by this shirt and these shoes

- playing soccer with people from work (OMG SO MUCH FUN)

- totally agreeing with the good people at EW about how much the movie Magnolia was not good

- binging at Sephora for lipstick that I am not allergic to

- figuring out the next book I should read (suggestions?)

- hoping it will rain more (come ON, people, it's FALL already)

So, as you can see, my life has been super-eventful lately. If it weren't for TV and writing, I'd have no life! (Yes, TV counts as a life.)
